We are back from Farpoint, which was held this weekend in Timonium, Maryland just north of Baltimore.  It was a great time, and I’m going to put a more detailed review of the con, because it’s very small, but just excellent, but I had to take a moment to squee – just a bit over one thing that happened this weekend:

Yes, I got to meet Felicia Day!  For those of you that don’t know – she was one of the potentials from Buffy, the lovely object of affection from Dr. Horrible, and she can be seen on both Epitaph episodes that bookmark the end of the each season of Dollhouse.  She also writes and produces her own show – web-based show called the Guild, which tells the story of players of a game similar to World of Warcraft.  It’s wickedly funny and smart, and she’s had some success with it, and I always love a great success story where new media is involved.

I’ve been a fan of hers since Buffy, where she was my favorite Potential.  And then she kept showing up on shows that I liked Strong Medicine, one of the Bring It On movies, and then the other stuff that mentioned above.  Then, someone linked me to her blog, and I discovered, she’s a gamer girl, is insanely smart, and has a wonderful down-to-earth sensibility that I can’t help but like.  And one of the things I like the most is she remains true to who she is, and she doesn’t apologize for it.  She doesn’t do some of the stupid stuff we see other starlets do, and she’s making her own way.

And she knits.  I did not know this, but when I heard that in the panel on Saturday – my inner squeeing fangirl started in.  Dan interviewed her today (and I get a sneak preview of it before it’s posted on Geekadelphia), and early early this morning I wrote up a five quick questions that he would ask her at the end of the interview if he had time (which he didn’t, mores the pity)  I was just tickled that she knits -and I want to know more.    I’m such the geeky knitter – I taught myself to knit, because I wanted a Hogwarts scarf in my House when I was in the middle of my HP obsession.  I designed my own Jayne Hat from Firefly.  I want to know what this fantastic geek girl does with her knitting.  Maybe some day.

But this was the highlight of my weekend – getting to meet Felicia Day.  So I’m going to get my fangirl squeeing out now, then do a better review of the whole con later this week.  And make an announcement.  And try not to talk about SNOW.  Because snow – at this moment is my nemesis.
